On equip 2016 (March 24-28) I was in strand for and tasked with preparing a short talk on Micah 1:1-2:5. I thought it would be fun to break from traditional wisdom and prepare the lesson in prose. Later I realised my folly and the lost learning opportunity that that would be and so also prepared a more verbose talk. As such the prose serves as a summary of what the contents of the talk would be.
It also occurred to me that prose would be a medium more shareable at work, so I have written and refined it a bit here.
Hear
oh
people
You
who
live
in
the
twenty
first
century.
Hear
the
message
to
Israel
the
ancient
to
Jacob
of
old.
Destruction
the
LORD
comes
in
anger
the
mountains
melt
before
Him.
Oh
Israel
you
oppressor
oh
father
of
Ahab,
mother
of
Jezebel,
who
oppressed
the
poor
and
delighted
in
injustice,
who
passed
false
judgements
and
sought
ill
gotten
gain.
Annihilation
is
coming
you
will
be
excluded
from
the
people
of
God.
Oh
Judah
the
faithless
You
who
worship
stars,
who
bow
down
to
a
pole,
who
made
idols
and
sacrificed
your
children
who
defiled
God’s
holy
place
and
filled
it
with
false
gods.
Exile
is
upon
you
your
children
will
be
carried
to
a
distant
land.
You
who
are
present
see
how
the
sisters
react.
Learn
from
their
lives
and
the
history
of
the
earth.
Israel
ignored
he
did
not
pay
attention.
So
the
LORD
sent
Assyria,
that
nation
of
warriors
They
consumed
Israel,
and
devoured
her
people.
But
Judah
acknowledged
their
guilt,
they
turned
from
their
evil.
So
the
LORD
had
mercy,
He
maintained
a
remnant.
He
kept
some
children
for
His
servant
David,
some
descendants
of
Abraham.
They
were
gathered
again
and
returned
to
the
land.
What
shall
we
learn?
for
we
are
not
ancient,
What
can
we
glean?
for
we
do
not
live
in
the
north.
See
how
the
LORD
weeps
He
weeps
at
their
sin,
He
cries
aloud
His
creation
is
defiled.
Yet
He
morns
over
the
death
of
Israel
He
weeps
at
the
destruction
of
Jacob.
What
can
He
do?
Jacob
has
worshipped
false
gods
and
has
devoured
the
poor.
In
justice
God
must
destroy
them
those
who
do
evil.
Yet
He
loves
them,
the
people
He
chose
long
ago.
But
God
is
wise
He
is
powerful.
He
has
done
justice,
yet
saved
His
people.
Come
and
see,
listen
to
the
fulfilment
of
His
plans.
This
is
the
message
proclaimed
to
us,
we
who
have
seen.
Jesus
took
their
guilt,
He
carried
it
to
the
grave
In
justice
he
bore
their
wickedness
In
faithfulness
their
idolatry.
So
Jesus
died,
He
paid
the
price.
Yet
He
paid
it
all,
justice
was
done.
So
He
rose
from
the
dead
taking
victory
from
the
grave.
Jesus
took
us
with
He
stood
in
our
place.
As
He
died
our
death
so
we
live
in
His
life.
Marvel
with
me
at
the
wisdom
of
God
at
the
richness
of
His
purposed.
Rejoice
for
He
hates
evil
and
sin
is
destroyed.
Rejoice
all
the
more
for
the
sinner
is
saved
and
is
robed
in
riches.
Who
is
like
this
God?
who
bears
the
punishment
to
spare
His
loved
ones.
who
rescues
His
creation
from
the
fire.
Who
does
He
love?
Those
who
love
Jesus.
Who
does
He
save?
Those
who
acknowledge
Jesus’
rule.
Who
are
His
people?
Those
who
trust
in
Him.
But
woe
to
you
who
reject
Jesus
who
deny
His
kingly
right.
Beware
for
He
is
the
fulfilment
of
justice
without
Him
the
message
is
the
same.
Doom
wretched
destruction
Your
guilt
is
your
own
and
you
will
face
fierce
justice.
