Thoughts on the book, and the series.
They have an interesting view of time. It is rather informative and has aided in my understanding of it. There are two points which I would like to consider.
First in Dune the existence of the future is made clear. There are many possible futures, but only one will come to pass.
It is interesting to note the way that the main characters choose one particular future and bind themselves irreversibly to it, as it is the best for humanity.
Secondly they rightly see time as a branching set of possibilities, however when a significant decision is made it is described as a merging, seething cauldron. I think it is more likely to be a very rapidly expanding tangle of branches. However this does show an insight into the fact that some actions are more significant than others.
