One of the truths I continuously remind myself of is that God is my Father. So what do I mean by that?
There are several parts. The first is that I can trust His goodness. “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11
The second is that I can rest in His guidance and discipline: “And have you completely forgotten the word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son?” Hebrews 12:5 and “My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” Proverbs 3:11-12 and “Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me” Psalm 23:4 He will correct me when I do wrong and guide me on good paths. I do not need to constantly look over my shoulder checking myself as a Pharisee would. No, I can rest in His fathering.
How do I know that these apply to me? “and I will be a father to you and you will be sons and daughters to me” 2 Corinthians 6:18
